Description

Home is a 2015 animated film from Dreamworks (The only such film for the year) that was made after the company was facing huge financial (But not critical) troubles, with some previously released films even resulting in write downs for the studio (Such as Mr. Peabody and Sherman).

Home was released and opened to what succeeded the company's predictions financially, but received mixed to negative reviews from critics and the internet. It was mostly criticized for being aimed far too much at children and having too many similarities to other films such as Despicable Me and Lilo and Stitch. The Boovs themselves reminded viewers of the Minions.

Okay, I won't argue against the consensus that Home isn't perfect. It's ingredients do have a lot in common with those of many other films and it does seem brightly colored and frantic enough to have more appeal among it's younger audience than adults. But the reason why it has so many ingredients for children is that it is aimed at children.

Home is a fun film, made for families to share the experience with their loved ones. It has a lot of similarities to other films, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have it's own personality. The film sports beautiful colors and scenery, great music and heart warming moments. Rihanna and Jim Parsons are notable for their performances of Tip and Oh, respectively, who bring a lot of charm and energy to their characters (Though Parson's portrayal as a socially awkward and grandiose alien does often times come off as a repeat of his Sheldon Cooper character in alien form).

Personally, I found Home to be a fun, meaningful and memorable addition to the Dreamworks family with far more charm than it gets credit for. It may have had it's flaws, but they're easy for me to ignore.
